Kim Black was born in 1970 in East London and attended Clarendon Gils high school. She then studied graphic design at The Border Technikon for 4 years .
Painting has always been her First Love , so when Kim moved to Botswana in 1998, she began exhibiting and doing commission work , namely a Christmas card for the President to send out to his government officials and murals for the American Ambassador’s home .

Moving to Cape Town, Kim exhibited in various galleries namely Rosendal Gallery in Durbanville, De Kraal Gallery in Paarl and an exhibition alongside Pierre Cronje’s furniture at Cavendish Square . Working with interior designers is a favourite for Kim as she enjoys the relationship between the artwork and beautiful spaces within the home .
In 2008, Kim moved to Nottingham , England where she exhibited her paintings in Mish Mash Gallery. Her paintings were also used as the covers for a local magazine called “Wollaston Life”.

In 2014 , Kim moved back to Cape Town and now resides in the Southern Peninsula with her husband and three children. In 2016, her home featured in the “Home ” and “Tuis” magazine (October issue) . Working in her studio from home, Kim is in her happy place!
